The Salvation Army strives to help, within its means, people who find themselves in a crisis or a situation that seems unsolvable to them. It helps with food, clothing, medicine.
In exceptional and individual cases, we also assist with retraining so that a person who has been unable to find work for a long time can enter the workforce with a wage that ensures a dignified life.
Example:
Mr. E. lives in a settlement but could not find a job that would allow him to move out of the settlement into a rental apartment. We hired him as a driver for one project. He demonstrated expertise, reliability, and a desire for further professional growth that would help him secure enough financial resources to move with his family into a rental apartment. After the project ended, he would have had to return to the Labor Office and remain in the settlement. Therefore, during the project, we enabled him to upgrade his driving license to include bus driving. (Companies rarely pay for such expensive courses for a person from a settlement.) He recently successfully passed the exams. Now, after the project ended, an opportunity for a well-paid job opened up for him, which he otherwise would not have been able to obtain.
