Glejovka Water Crisis • Response to IHQ Emergency Queries
Who legally owns the well and treatment system, and who is responsible for its maintenance and compliance?
The Salvation Army in Slovakia is the legal owner of the well and the water treatment system, and is thus the entity responsible for its maintenance and regulatory compliance. Having an independent water source was a mandatory legal requirement under the Social Services Act for the registration of our Community Center.
Connection to the municipal water main was not possible due to the refusal of a neighboring landowner whose property the main crosses. As the well is private property, current legislation prevents the city or state administration from investing public funds into it.
Is there an existing community structure that helps manage or oversee the well?
The management and oversight of the well are handled directly by our organization. Professional water quality control is regularly performed by the laboratory of the Regional Public Health Authority (RÚVZ). There is currently no specialized community committee established for this purpose.
Would it be appropriate to include basic hygiene and health awareness activities alongside the technical intervention?
Including awareness-raising activities is highly desirable, and we fully support it. We already cooperate actively with the "Healthy Regions" organization in this locality. A recent example of successful cooperation was the resident education following a hepatitis outbreak.
We are prepared to expand this awareness program to include safe water use, handling, and general sanitation education to strengthen overall impact.
RÚVZ test results received; well use suspended.
Contractor assessment and formal quote received.
Funding approval and project pathway selection.
Technical intervention and health monitoring.
